Charity Variety Night - February 10th 2007

This article was published in 5 Newspapers and 3 magazines.
Article written by Craig Kidd.

A Charity Variety Night which was held at the Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford was a great success and raised nearly 11000, especially with Craig Kidd at the helm who produced, directed and also acted as compere. It starred Yorkshire Comedian Billy Pearce and Chart Topper, Opportunity Knocks Winner & Comedy Vocalist Berni Flint, they were without doubt the highlights of the show. Also performing were vocalist Jane Tracie with the Walton Dance Troop, Magician Thomas Anthony and the Bird Man of Magic Paul Derek, They performed to a packed audience of over 350 people.

Gerald Wilde and Craig Kidd who jointly organised the event are both recovering cancer patients and this particular event was arranged to raise money for cancer charities in the Province of Yorkshire West Riding. This included the Dr Jackson Cancer Fund at Pontefract General Infirmary, The Wakefield Oncology & Leukaemia Fund based at the Clover Unit at Pinderfields Hospital,
The Annette Fox Leukaemia Research Fund Based at Bradford Royal Infirmary and the Cavendish Centre in Sheffield.

A big thank you must go to all the supporters and helpers of this event which made it such a memorable occasion and enabled it to be the success that it was. Special thanks must go to Lady Jackie Bain who not only was a big promoter and helped out on the evening of the event but also obtained a large amount of the raffle prizes on our behalf from companies and personal donators.

The Cancer charity fund is a non profit business which was set up by Craig Kidd in November 2006, events and functions are put together by using his friends, contacts and his vast knowledge of the entertainment and media industry. For more information on the Cancer Charity Fund and to see how they can help you, check out the website. www.craigkidd.co.uk/ccf.html. If you are an entertainer or would like to be involved or offer help in other areas of the events you can contact Craig or Gerald via the website.

Whats on in the future! Craig & Gerald have a surprise for another cancer charity later in the year when they are hoping to make another donation and a presentation; this will tie with another event which is being organised so watch this space.

Connaught Court Family Fun Day 2006
Article Written By CS Kidd
Published in the White Rose Magazine

It was a glorious day on l7 June and an early start for the organisers of the fund raising day at Connaught Court.
I arrived at 9.30am expecting to be the first but there was an
abundance of activity from volunteers who were eagerly setting up stalls and getting tables ready for the grand opening at 1pm by the Provincial Grand Master, R W Bro John K Clayton.
The picture is of William Hartley on Craig Kidds motorcycle who guessed the correct weight of the Harley Davidson Fat boy and won a Harley T-shirt which was kindly donated by Eddy Wrights Motor Cycles, Kirkstall Road, Leeds. The day went extremely well with lots to do and lots to see and, of course, a hearty amount was raised for the residential home.

The Worshipful Master of 2006 - 2007 WBro David Tomlin requested that some of the proceeds of the money that was raised during his year be donated to the Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract. It was decided that rather than presenting them with a cheque it would be better to purchase an item that they could use. The hospice requested a tip and tilt reclining chair to assist the terminally ill in standing up from a seated position.
The aim was to raise enough funds for one chair as they are valued at
1200 each, but due to some hard fund raising and a 500 extra donation
from the Cancer Charity Fund which WBro Craig Kidd donated plus a
discount from Furniture Hamlet whom supplied the chairs, the Lodge
was able to purchase 3 chairs which where presented to the Hospice in
November 2007.

Freemasons help 1st Pontefract Scout Group

A chance meeting by the 1st Pontefract Scout Leader John Fisher and Worshipful Brother Craig Kidd a member of DeLacy Lodge in Pontefract started an upstream paddle that couldnt be stopped, Craig over heard him complaining about how the members of 1st Pontefract Scouts sometimes have to miss out due to lack of equipment, particularly Canoe and the relevant safety equipment thats needed with it. After taking notes Craig spoke to members of his own Lodge regarding the plight of the Scouts at their next meeting. They all agreed that an application for a grant from the Provincial Grand Masters fund would be a suitable way forward to help the Scout Group. This fund is the central grant giving organisation for the Freemasons in Yorkshire West Riding, the application was successful and this then boosted the funds by 1500 for the purchase of Canoe and other outdoor equipment.
1St Pontefract Scout Group is the largest in the area with over 200 children aged between 6 and 14, they perform various activities at the scout centre and on day trips and weekend breaks all over the country. The Children are overjoyed with the donation and when Craig mentioned how much we might get it was more than we ever hoped for said the Scout Master, you just never know whos listening - For more information on freemasonry, what we do and how we help the community please log onto www.pontefractmasonichall.co.uk
